I am a Professor at the London School of Economics. My research focuses on international trade and negotiations. I am currently researching offshoring and how plant closures to move abroad impact on domestic politics and election outcomes.

In my new book, Spending to Win, I investigate why governments selectively target economic benefits, like subsidies, to businesses. Based on interviews with government ministers and bureaucrats, as well as parliamentary records, industry publications, local media coverage, and new quantitative data, I demonstrate that economic policy can be explained by the combination of electoral institutions and economic geography.

I serve on the steering committee of the International Political Economy Society (IPES) and the editorial board of the journal International Organization. I have appeared on various media outlets to discuss events in the global economy, including
BBC Radio 4's flagship Today programme.
