General Course Student Grades
Ph103 2013-2014

Students participating in LSE's General Course Program will receive two grades at the end of a course: 1) the Class Grade, and 2) the Exam Grade. These grades can then be used by the student's home institution to assign credit. For more information about this assessment process, see here.

In this course, the Class Grade is determined as follows.

40% Class Contribution

Class contribution includes attendance. If one is absent one cannot contribute--so this grade is not based on 'how good was the student when she was in class?', but 'How much of a contribution to class discussion over the year as a whole did the student make?'

60% Required Coursework

The first essay of Michaelmas Term is an exception, and will not count toward your coursework grade. The other essays all be averaged and will count toward your coursework grade. Non-submitted coursework is marked as '0'.

5% Bonus

There is a 'bonus' of 5% added to the Class Grade, to compensate for the fact that the UK grading system is harsher than the grading system at the typical General Course student's home university.
