 2005: Ashby Prize to the most innovative paper published in Environment and Planning A in 2004 (Is there a global link between regional disparities and devolution? Vol 36, 12, 2097-2117, joint with Nicholas Gill). 

 

2001: Royal Society-Wolfson Research Merit Award for research on development strategies and economic growth.

 

2001: Royal Geographical Society's Gill Memorial Award in recognition of research contributions to understanding regional disparities and regional policies.

 

2001: Philip Leverhulme Research Prize for work on Economic Geography.

 

 1996: Distinction for outstanding quality of a PhD thesis. European University Institute, Florence.

 

1994: Prize of the School of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid to the best PhD thesis of 1993. 

 

  1991: Distinction for outstanding MSc performance. Institut d'Etudes Européennes, Université Libre de Bruxelles.
