Minutes of the ECIS Standing Committee meeting, held on June 11th at 16.00 held at the School of Business, Economics and Law, Vasagatan 1, 405 30 Göteborg

1. Apologies

Apologies were received from Brian Fitzgerald, Federico Rajola, David Avison, Eph Maclean, Dieter Bartmann

2. Minutes of previous meeting

3. Report on ECIS 2006

3.1 Noted

That 618 submissions had been received, of these, 210 had been selected, giving 204 presentations and 5 panels

That there were 2 keynotes and one plenary panel.

That, to date, there were 384 attendees of whom 313 were paying attendees

That the social events included the welcome party, welcome reception, SJIS reception and the conference dinner.

Other events at this time include the Ocean Race finishing near the conference dinner.

3.2 Reported

That the final programme had been published very late, making it difficult for some to plan their travel

 

3.3 Report on ECIS doctoral consortium

3.4 Reported

That the DC had just finished with 38 applications received for 20 places

That the review process involved 2 faculty members and the norm was for the strongest applications to be accepted, although there was some flexibility for weaker applications coming from emerging areas

That in total, 11 countries were represented, with 7 faculty (including representatives from next year's DC) from 7 countries

That the feedback suggested that the DC had gone well.

That the venue (approximately 1 hour away) was exquisite and that Jan and Dick were to be congratulated for choosing such a perfect location

 

4. Report on forthcoming conferences

4.1 ECIS 2007 : St Gallen, Switzerland

4.2 Reported

The particular structure of the conference had been applied successfully in the past

That Hubert Osterle would be the programme chair and Walter Brenner the Organising Chair

That some of the tracks from previous years had been merged and others split to keep the sizes reasonable

That given the interests of the hosts, there was a particular focus on including more engineering and organisational development type papers

That the track chair structure was designed to ensure a balance across the region, although there were fewer representatives from the South and East than had been desired.

That the financial plans were as per the initial proposal

That the conference dinner would take place at the World Heritage Site

That the inspection meeting would take place February 23-25 2007

That the Start review management system would be used (as with previous conferences)

4.3 ECIS 2008: Galway, Ireland

4.4 Reported

That the Research papers chair was Professor Hans van der Heijden, Research in Progress Professor Hans Dieter Zimmerman, Panels Professor Guy Fitzgerald, International chair, Professor Marcelloa Martinez, Doctoral consortium Professor Eric van Heck

That the rooms had been booked for the event, including the likely location for the gala dinner.

That there were 3500+ hotel beds available

4.5 Noted

That, in general, full professorial colleagues (like those chosen as conference officers) would help to attract papers and had the appropriate authority and credibility in case the decisions of the programme officers were challenged.

5. Proposals to host future conferences

5.1 Noted

That no formal proposals had been received, although some informal interest had been expressed and these would be followed up

6. Academic misconduct: A policy for ECIS

6.1 Noted

The ambiguity about AIS policy with regards to allegations of plagiarism in AIS affiliated conferences and publications

6.2 Resolved

That Edgar write to AIS on behalf of ECIS seeking clarification of AIS policy.  (Copy of letter attached)

7. Any other business

7.1 Noted

That there was interest in developing a pedagogy / teaching track for future conferences

The next meeting would be held at the ECIS planning meeting in St Gallen, February 2007
