This project, financed by the Leverhulme Foundation, is now completed. It aimed at understanding why some young people join political parties while most of their contemporaries seem increasingly uninterested in party politics.

The project, co-ordinated by Michael Bruter from the London School of Economics, assisted by Sarah Harrison, used a combination of surveys and interviews with young members. The survey was answered by nearly 3000 young members of fifteen parties in six European democracies to improve our understanding of the perceptions and motivations of these young citizens. Over 500 young party members also took part in our individual, face-to-face in-depth interviews.

This website gives you more information regarding the nature, aims, objectives, progress, participants and outcomes of our project, which ran from December 2004 to June 2007. It also includes a direct link to our questionnaire. In the next few weeks, we will also include a summary of our first results to answer the broad demand we have received for the release of preliminary results. After reading the description of our project, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question!
