About Dr. Simon Evans

I am a PhD graduate of the Department of Social Psychology at the London School of Economics. I worked in advertising as a media strategist for 15 years before studying psychology with the Open University. During this time I became interested in the social aspects of psychology: how we become selves, the influence other people have on the kind of person we become and how the environments we find ourselves shape our experience and feelings about ourselves. Following this, I joined the LSE to study social and cultural psychology at masters level, which coincided with me discovering the Second Life virtual world. For my MSc dissertation I decided to explore how experiences in virtual worlds may illuminate the experience of being a self, an endeavour pursued further for my PhD thesis.
