Easter Vacation 2011

There are several pieces of essential maintenance and survey work that needs to be carried out at Bankside. We have worked with the contractors to schedule this work at the beginning of the Easter Vacation so as to minimise disruption in the run up to exams. We appreciate that it will still cause inconvenience but we hope that by scheduling the work like this we can minimise disruption.

Borehole drilling - 28th - 31st March.
There will be drilling in the basement, near the student laundry, between Monday 28th and Thursday 31st March inclusive. This will produce some noise during the day. The noisiest day will be on Tuesday 29th March.

Fixed Electrical Testing - two weeks from Tuesday 29th March.
For two weeks from Tuesday 29th March Initial Building Services will be testing the fixed electrical wiring in the building. These periodic tests are required by law to ensure safety. During the first week the engineers will test the communal areas, in the second week they will be testing wiring in bedrooms. The test should only take a few minutes and you are not required to be present in your room at the time.

Bus bar testing - 30th and 31st March. Following the heating failure in the early part of the year there will be testing taking place on the main bus bars for the building. There will be power, heat and light disruption to the west wing (lower room numbers) on 30th March and to the east wing (higher room numbers) on the 31st March.
Showerhead Cleaning - Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April. The monthly statutory showerhead and extractor clean will take place on 2nd and 3rd April.

Surveyors on site - Monday 4th April. There will be surveyors on site on Monday 4th April. The surveyors will require access to some rooms on the sixth and seventh floors - you will be contacted individually if they need access to your room. Please note the change of date for this works.
Noise testing - during Easter. On two days during the Easter Vacation there will be some noise testing to establish how noisy the planned building works will be. The testing will take place in the middle of the day and we will let you know exact dates as soon as we get these details. Please note the change of date for these works.

Shower Sealing. The shower sealing works will continue throughout the Easter break.

Census 2011

Please ensure that you have returned your completed Census form
You are required by law to complete the census if you have been resident in the UK for more than three months, regardless of immigration, nationality or voter status. Failure to do so may incur prosecution, a criminal record and a fine of up to £1000. Completed forms should be taken to reception, in the original envelope stating your room number. If you have any questions please speak to reception, ask a sub-warden or visit the Census 2011 Website.

TV and Study Room - no sound-proofing is perfect!
The TV Room and Study Room are intended for watching TV and group study respectively
and are sound-proofed as such. They are not designed for playing loud music or hosting parties. In the TV room in particular please take care not to turn the volume and bass up to excessive levels during quiet hours (11pm to 8am) as this disturbs the residents on the ground floor. Following some investigation work there are now maximum volume and bass levels posted above the sound system in the TV room which must be followed at all times. If you would like to play music we would recommend the bar area as an alternative.

Reception

Guest Passes
Please remember that you should return your guest pass back to reception when your guest has departed. Failure to return your pass will result in a charge for a replacement being added to your rent account.

Maintenance

Shower Sealing
Over the next four weeks we  will be continuing with the programme to reseal showers. This is essential work to stop leaks developing. We will contact you individually if work is due to undertaken in your bathroom and would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Monthly Room Checks - Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March
Monthly room checks will be taking place on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March. You do not need to be present in your room during the check and it should only take a few minutes. For some hints and tips on bathroom cleaning you might want to refer  to the
Lent Term Week 5 edition of the Banksider.

LSE Teaching and Learning Centre

Undergraduate exam preparation sessions - 29th & 30th March.
The Teaching and Learning centre will be running workshops on exam preparation during the first week of Easter vacation. On the 29th and 30th March between 10am and 11.30am, and repeated between 2pm and 3.30pm, there is a workshop on key elements in successful essay writing and the chance to plan a revision strategy for the Easter Break.  Between 12noon and 1.30pm on the 29th and 30th March Dr. Tony Whelan will discuss how to prepare for quantitative exams.
