"Open Source- a New Business Model?"

Researchers and practitioners alike have recently nurtured a growing interest in open source software. Linux and Apache staggering success stories have enhanced their interest in this topic. This workshop analyses the open source business model in the ICT domain. Discussion will focus on the following themes:

-          Analysis of the open source phenomenon and its likely evolutionary trends: What is open source? How do open source communities work? What are the differences between the open and closed source model? Which one is more efficient and more profitable? 

-          Analysis of market opportunities: What software services can businesses supply? What licences can they adopt? What business models can they follow? What ties can they develop with the underlying communities of practices?
