Environment

Bankside is becoming one of the GREENEST HALLS OF RESIDENCE AT LSE, last year being the Hall which was able to achieve the greatest reduction in energy usage. Everyone gets involved in doing their bit to love the planet, and there is a lot of support if you are not sure about something or want to get more involved in environmental projects through-out the Hall or at the school. These are just some of the ways you can REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE during your time at Bankside:

[Image] Poster 1[Bullet point]  REDUCE the amount of energy that gets wasted. You can do this by turning off lights and electrical equipment when you leave a room, using the stairs instead of the lifts whenever possible and turning the heating off when you go out.

Look out for posters like this to remind
you to reduce the energy used unnecessarily

[Image] Poster 2[Bullet point]  REUSE your things. You can do this by using the Bankside Plastic Bag cycle, taking the same cup for water re-fills at the restaurant and seeing if you can get creative with old clothes before throwing them out.

Read through this poster when you first arrive so you know how
to maximise your use of the Bankside Plastic bag cycle

[Bullet point]  RECYCLE your waste. You can do this by making full use of the BANKSIDE recycling bins in the refuses, donating your old clothes to charity instead of throwing them out and investigating buying second-hand items before new ones. There are two refuses on each of the eight floors at Bankside, and each has clearly labeled crates where you can recycle:

   -   Any aluminum cans or containers
   -   All colours and types of glass
   -   Any plastic containers (Such as yoghurt pots, milk containers, salad trays, excluding type 7 plastics)

You can also recycle in the Bankside restaurant.

There are signs in the study kitchens to
show you where the nearest recycling point is
