Background

Javier Trevino-Rangel holds and MA in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and a BA in International Relations from El Colegio de Mexico. He is currently completing his PhD in Sociology. Javier's current research is concerned with three issues. Why did President Vicente Fox to establish a transitional justice process in Mexico that would put at risk the new regime's stability, and why did the former authoritarian elite allow it? How was this peculiar transitional justice process constructed, and how did it affect its performance and results? How, and to what extent, did transitional justice affect the process of democratization in Mexico?

Before coming to LSE in 2007, Javier worked as a researcher on human rights at CASEDE. He also worked as Research Director at Propuesta Civica, focusing on negative electoral campaigns. He was a consultant to the UN's High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico, and a lecturer on Mexico's political system at the Universidad Iberoamericana.
