3 ECIS 97 Cork

3.1 Reported

Ciaran Murphy on the progress to date. Over 150 research papers had been received, together with 40 research in progress papers, a significant number of case studies and over ten panels. There were also plans for 4-5 master classes. These were to be tutorial-like for younger faculty and PhD students.

That the total costs were likely to be of the order of £140,000 of which 50% needed to be found locally.

(Full details of the latest budget are attached below for information).

3.2 Noted

That ICIS in Copenhagen had had 100 on-site registrations

That is might be possible to save some money on some of the 'little items' in the budget

A suggestion to hold a one day programme for practitioners, essentially an European "Executive programme" with some of the best speakers in Europe.

That, in principle, the EU may be prepared to provide some funds, but could not do so this time because Eire is currently holding the Presidency.

That EU funding had been applied for for the PhD consortia for 1998 and 1999. The decision should be known by June.

That ECIS could become a convenient meeting place for EU funded projects.

That ECIS consider formalising a best paper award. It was suggested that this should be used to provide recognition of the best paper and should therefore be a diploma or plaque rather than a monetary award.

That Jacques-André Bartoli be invited to the Vienna Meeting of the Programme Committee (January 26/27th).

3.3 Resolved

That ECIS have prizes for the best paper at the conference and for the best case study.

That Standing Committee members encourage as many of their colleagues as possible to attend the conference.

4 Proposals for future ECIS conferences

• Copenhagen 1999

4.1 Noted

That a new building for the Business School would now only be ready on July 1st, 1999.

That alternative facilities were available in nearby buildings.

That Midsummer's day (Wednesday June 23rd) is a holiday in Denmark

4.2 Resolved

That June 23rd-26th were the most suitable dates for the conference

That Niels Bjorn-Andersen bring a full proposal (using the alternative facilities) to the next meeting of the Standing Committee.

• Vienna 2000

4.3 Noted

A full, detailed proposal for holding ECIS 2000 in Vienna

That Hans Hansen would take overall charge of the conference arrangements, with assistance provided by the rest of the conference committee.

4.4 Resolved

That, on the basis of the excellent proposal, Hans Hansen and colleagues be invited to host ECIS 2000 in Vienna.

5 Format for conference proceedings (Paper / CD-ROM etc.)

5.1 Noted

That, at the current time, the costs of producing CD-ROM proceedings were very similar to paper proceedings.

That the ICIS proposal (whereby all delegates receive CD-ROM proceedings by default, with paper copies bookable in advance and, to a limited extent, available at the conference) had worked well.

That ECIS 97 was including a 'library order form' for the proceedings with the invitation programme.

6 Any other business

That a PhD course would like to have students discussing the best papers for the conference, together with the two papers that inspired them. The full papers would be available by the end of February for this purpose.

The bids by Copenhagen and Vienna were formally welcomed and a wish was expressed that future conferences might be held in Central or Eastern Europe. To this end, it was hoped that it would be possible to invite some Eastern European members to the Standing Committee.

7 Date of next meeting

The next meeting of the Standing Committee will take place at ECIS 97 in Cork on June 18th at 2PM
