Convenor of the Conflict Studies Programme, Department of Government, LSE

Professor Jim Hughes is the Convenor of the Conflict Studies MSc. programme in the Department of Government, LSE. He initiated the MSc. programme in 2004, and has been the driving force behind its design and development. By 2011 it had 57 students, making it one of the largest MSc programmes at LSE, and also one of the major programmes of its kind in the UK.

The Conflict Studies programme has drawn on LSE's world class research expertise in the study of conflict and further enhanced its reputation for developing innovative approaches to teaching about conflict, political violence, terrorism, and ways of managing conflict. One of the distinctive features and attractions of Conflict Studies at LSE is its emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of the study of conflict, with contributions from comparative politics, international relations, sociology, history, law, economics, anthropology, development and psychology. Many of our alumni have gone on to work in governments, international organisations, NGOs,  the media and multinational corporations.
