Background
I'm a Professor in Health and International Development in the Department of International Development at the London School of Economics and a member of the Population @LSE group, the Global Health Initiative, Middle East Centre as well as LSE Health. I am a health demographer with a background in statistics having obtained a masters' degree in demography and statistical sciences from the University La Sapienza in Rome and a PhD in Social Statistics from the University of Southampton. I work on women's health in LMICs at the intersection between demography and health policy. My PhD was on 'Fertility and union dynamics in Brazil'. I have been at LSE since 2006 where I have worked as a Senior Research Fellow in LSE Health before becoming a lecturer in the dept of Social Policy. Previously, I was at the Centre for Longitudinal Studies at the Institute for Education, where I worked as a research fellow on the National Evaluation of the Children Fund. I worked as a Statistician at the UN Statistics Division from 2002 to 2004.
