A. Questions for Submission
5.1 Entanglement
Consider two entangled particles separated by a great distance.
- What happens when the position of one of the particles is measured?
- Compare this to what would have happened if the momentum of the particle were measured instead, and explain how this might give rise to a 'faster than light' effect.
- A man dies while traveling to a distant planet, and his wife immediately becomes a widow. Is this analogous to entanglement? Explain.
5.2 Einstein's Argument
- What is Einstein's criterion of reality?
- How did EPR use this criterion to argue that quantum mechanics is incomplete?
5.3 Complementarity
Bohr expressed his 'complementarity principle' in the following: "[E]vidence obtained under different experimental conditions cannot be comprehended within a single picture, but must be regarded as complementary in the sense that only the totality of the phenomena exhausts the possible information about the objects." Explain. Do you find this view plausible? Why or why not?
