I am a political scientist at the London School of Economics and Political Science with research interests in comparative politics, political economy, and public policy. A main focus of my work has been on accountability and transparency in government, especially in the context of public finances. Other current research relates to the right to vote and its consequences and a book project on economists as policy-makers. My work has been published in the British Journal of Political Science and the Journal of Politics, amongst others. I have given evidence to parliamentary committees in Canada, Germany, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, and worked with civil society, legislatures, governments, and international organizations to improve the use of public funds. From 1997 to 2003, when I came to the LSE to complete my PhD, I was a researcher at the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (Idasa).
